About Sarah

How I became a photographer

For me, the choice to become a photographer was very deliberate. Growing up in New Zealand, I always enjoyed taking pictures of my family and friends and bundling them up in albums or hanging them on my wall. Eventually I decided I loved this enough that I would like to learn to capture images for others, professionally.

I attended university and earned diplomas in both Digital Imaging and Professional Photography at Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology (CPIT). While still studying, I was lucky enough to work with some of New Zealand's premier wedding photographers. Working with them helped me solidify the strong desire I already had for photographing people.

Photography to me is creative, difficult, incredibly fun and very satisfying. The challenges are different every day and I could not imagine doing anything else. I love to take pictures of the things that make you laugh and cry and feel alive. The things that you never want to forget: your family, your happiness, your love. For me, it doesn't get much better than that.

Landing in Texas

In 2011, a deadly earthquake caused incredible damage to where I was living and working in Christchurch. These events led me to seek new challenges across the pacific in the United States and landed me in Austin, Texas where I later met my husband, Justin.

In 2012 I made the decision to launch my own photography studio and Sarah Jaine Photography was born. Running this business is my dream job and I have not looked back since.

Other things I love

I'm incredibly thankful for my husband, our family and friends all over the globe, and our wee cats and dog. I love songs that make you want to rock out air guitar, corn chips and salsa (truly one of my favourite things about Texas), laughing so hard you’re doubled over in pain, sleeping in, and working hard and seeing the results! I frequently travel and enjoy photographing a selection of weddings every year throughout the US and internationally.
